Winona-Ryder
Winona Laura Horowitz professionally known in the media as Winona Ryder was born in Winona Minnesota. Parents of Winona Ryder chose her name after her hometown. Both her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder, who considers herself Jewish has a connection to Ryder's Jewish father. Ryder has two half-siblings younger than her, Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder's family moved from Mendocino County to California when she was seven years old. There was no electricity. Ryder became an avid book reader because there was television. Ryder was 12 when she enrolled at the American Conservatory Theatre for acting classes in 1983. At the age of fifteen, she landed her first acting job on screen, in Lucas. Ryder faced bullying during her high school years. Ryder believed that her future as an actress would help. Sadly, this didn't occur. However, it didn't stop her from making plans for her future. Her biggest break came in 1988 with Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder continued to play successful roles in a variety of films. Two Academy Awards were nominated, one for The Age of Innocence (1996).
